Veltheimia bracteata AGM

A South African bulb, producing a spike bearing a dense head of tubular pink flowers, reminescent of a Kniphofia (Red hot poker),  in late winter. The leaves are attractive, being shiny green and wavy-edged. It usually doesn’t quite go dormant in summer. It survives for me in a cold greenhouse in winter, just frost-free, but can also be a houseplant, preferably in a cool room with good light.

Usually sold as an almost-dormant bulb in summer (unless collected).
